¿Exagera Dios acerca de la Salvación?

Cuando tomé la decisión de poner a un lado mis prejuicios tradicionales y examinar las Escrituras para ver lo que realmente dicen acerca de una salvación universal, me quedé asombrado al descubrir qué tan a menudo Dios habla de una restauración futura a través de Cristo que incluye a todos - no solo los que están en la tierra, sino también en los cielos y debajo de la tierra. En el apéndice de mi libro “El Triunfo de la Misericordia” hay una lista parcial citando cerca de cien versículos que hablan de la salvación y restauración final de todos, y más de cincuenta que militan en contra de la doctrina de tormentos sin fin.

Algunos argumentan que Dios sólo está hablando hiperbólicamente cuando habla de la restauración de todos y por eso no debemos entender estas declaraciones de forma literal. Citan ejemplos de expresiones hiperbólicas en las Escrituras como: “Y salían a él toda la provincia de Judea, y todos los de Jerusalén; y eran bautizados por él en el río Jordán, confesando sus pecados.” (Marcos 1:5) Sin embargo, el sentido común nos indica cuando uno está hablando hiperbólicamente y cuando no. Si fuera a decir: “Toda Bogotá estaba en la reunión,” o “todo el mundo sabe que ella es la mejor cantante,” instantáneamente sabríamos que son expresiones hiperbólicas y exageradas para mayor impacto. En cambio, si el capitán de un barco que está hundiéndose fuera a decir: “El barco se está hundiendo pero no teman porque todos serán salvos,” ¿Podríamos racionalmente decir que es hipérbole? ¿Sería posible que algún día Dios nos confiese que Sus promesas de salvar y restaurar a todos fueron exageraciones? ¡Claro que no! ¿Cómo podríamos atribuir tal engaño a Dios?

 Ciertamente, cualquier perspectiva acerca de la consumación del plan de Dios para las épocas que sea digna de consideración seria, debe estar en armonía con el amplio testimonio de las Escrituras acerca de la última reconciliación de todos a través de la sangre de Jesucristo, derramada en la cruz por el mundo entero.
