Greetings from Mitu Colombia,
I am writing to communicate some challenges we have been facing in recent months so that all of you can better know how to support us and pray for us. I believe that in many ways this has been the most challenging year, both spiritually and financially, since we arrived here nearly 26 years ago in the middle of the armed conflict with FARC. When we founded our Christian grade school here 13 years ago, the department of education did not want to give us a license, but the Lord gave us favor with our governor who pressured them to grant us that legal right. With the financial support of those of you who are supportive of our mission we were able to build facilities to accommodate children up to the fifth grade. However, due to financial limitations, we have since not yet been able to expand the classrooms needed to have a full grade school. I rarely bring up the subject of finances for the mission. However, this year in particular, our financial situation has reached a point where we are not able to meet even our basic needs. This is in part because of a decrease in monthly support, but another factor is the financial crisis occasioned by the policies of President Gustavo Petro who is a communist guerrilla turned politician. His policies, like high taxes on gasoline, have greatly increased the cost of living. He also has the support of 5 communist senators and 5 congressmen from the guerrilla cuartel FARC. This is not without precedent in Colombia, considering that Pablo Escobar also held office in Congress while at the same time trafficking drugs. President Petro has intentionally sought to destroy the health-care system in Colombia in order to replace it with his socialist centralized institution. This has presented a challenge for me since I am a transplant patient and cannot go without my immune suppressants. We have had to hire lawyers, and even then, I only receive about half of what my doctors prescribe. My doctors, who often monitor me without receiving pay, have sought to alleviate my problem by doubling the prescription. I am also in need of a surgery but the surgeons have suspended all surgeries until the government pays them backpay for surgeries already performed. Please be praying for the future of Colombia. Petro wants to change the Constitution so that he can stay in power like Hugo Chavez did in Venezuela. He wants to take us in the same direction which led to the ruin of Cuba and Venezuela. He also wants to close all private schools, only having government-run schools with a woke agenda. He is aggressively antisemitic and antichrist, aligning himself with Hamas and other radical Jihadists and expelling Israeli representatives. If he manages to amend the Constitution, religious liberty would be restricted just as we saw happen in Cuba. If any of you feel led to help us with a one-time financial gift or make a monthly commitment, it would be greatly appreciated.
